Case Study 1

A teacher was accused and under investigation. There was an embargo placed on the information
by the school council. Whilst the teacher involved was being investigated by police and the
Central Authority, no information about the matter was to be released or ‘leaked’ to any other
               teacher, staff or students.

All the teachers were told was that the teacher ‘John’ was being taken off classes and would be
assisting the Administration with data entry for the remainder of the Semester. As the
investigation continued various teachers and some students were interviewed. At interview they
were warned not to say anything about this matter to anyone else under threat of legal action
               (yeah right!).

Finally the matter was resolved and the teacher was reinstated to classes. The principal
announced that the issue had been fully investigated and the matter was now closed. Later that
week a delegation of parents came to the Principal’s office and demanded to know what had
occurred and why was “John” allowed to teach their children.

What would you do if teachers in your unit asked you what was happening?
