Ms Vivien Tang Foong Yee, a PhD student who is currently under Professor Chou Kee-lee's supervision, has recently published a series of articles: two on open access and one in press. These papers studied the relationship between poverty and examined material deprivation and loneliness among older adults in Hong Kong.

SWU Faculty of Social Science Visits The Education University of Hong Kong on July 23, 2024
In a bid to foster international academic collaboration, the Faculty of Social Science at Srinakharinwirot University (SWU), Thailand, visited The Education University of Hong Kong. The delegation, led by Dr Fox Hu, the Acting Head of the Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies, engaged in extensive discussions covering four key areas of mutual interest.
The meeting's agenda included:
1. Program Overview: Both universities shared insights and detailed descriptions of their respective academic programs, aiming to identify synergies and opportunities for curriculum enhancement.
2. Research Themes: An exploration of research themes and interests of faculty members from both universities was conducted to pinpoint potential areas for collaborative, cross-boundary research initiatives.
3. Knowledge Exchange: The discussion also extended to promoting educational trips for both students and staff, focusing on enriching their academic and cultural experiences in Thailand.
4. Student Exchange: Potential future student exchange programs were examined, laying the groundwork for increased student mobility and international exposure.
Established in 1949, Srinakharinwirot University is Thailand's first higher education institution dedicated exclusively to teacher training. This visit marks a significant step towards enhanced academic cooperation and the expansion of joint student activities between the two esteemed universities.
The engagement between SWU and The Education University of Hong Kong underscores a shared commitment to advancing educational excellence and fostering global academic networks.

此外,伍博士7月初於Journal of International Migration and Integration發表文章,研究由一群香港學生、學者及來自南亞、東南亞及非洲的尋求庇護者與難民創辦的非政府組織,如何克服困難,於圍村建立網絡推動跨種族共融。

A Public Policy Summer School organized by the Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies was held from 14 July to 19 July at The Education University of Hong Kong. 40 students and faculty members from different universities and organisations in Mainland China and Thailand participated in the event.
The participants attended a variety of lectures and field trips related to public policy in Hong Kong. It covered hot topics such as housing policy, social welfare, etc. The participants expressed that this learning experience not only broadened their horizons but also enhanced their understanding of public policy.
"It also provided a chance to meet friends from other mainland universities and Thailand. believe none of our team would forget the valuable experience." said staff and students from the Ocean University of China.
The event was jointly funded by the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies. The Coordinator, Dr Hanyu XIAO stated that this Summer School has promoted exchanges and cooperation among regional universities, laying a good foundation for cultivating future talents in the field of public policy.








BEd(GEOG) year-2 students have joined an exciting and educational field trip to the United Kingdom from 30 May to 9 June 2024. The immersive journey took them on a remarkable exploration of various techniques used in field data collection and provided them opportunities to conduct geographical related field research in both physical and human environment.
During the field trip, students may gain hands-on experience using different fieldwork equipment and designing experiments, which allows them to observe and record data in real world situations and enhances their essential field knowledge.
The success of this trip is greatly attributed to our exceptional teaching staff, whose unwavering commitment and continuous efforts have been the key to the success of this course and the programme. Their hard work and exceptional support have gone above and beyond, ensuring a memorable and enriching experience for all participants.
