Prof. Woo Chi-keung, Professor with the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has been invited by Hong Kong Baptist University to present on a new online process for assessing individual contributions to a team project. Innovative thinking brings exciting research outcome. A case in point is Prof. Woo’s response to an end-of-semester complaint of free riding in his undergrad course of Research Methods. The attached file is his presentation of an online process to fairly assess individual contributions to a team project. A think-outside-the-box solution to a common problem faced by higher education teachers, the process is easy to use, low cost and perfectly general. Immediately implementable, it is applicable to any course in any discipline. Adopting the process will yield the following benefits: (a) an improvement in assessing individual contributions; (b) a new tool for teaching and learning; and (c) academic publications with demonstrable research impact. The merit of the process is evidenced by the 20+ interested users who are teachers at EdUHK, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Changzhou University (常州大学). With the endorsement and support of Prof. Joanne Chung and Prof. Stephen Cheung, Prof. Woo is looking for additional adopters. Besides an acknowledgement that the process comes from a presentation prepared by Prof. Woo, your use of the process is totally unconditional.
