APS People in the News – Prof. Chou Kee-lee on the Trend of Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools

Ming Pao (20 June 2017) reported that Prof. Chou Kee-lee, Chair Professor with the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) at The Education University of Hong Kong, said the trend of prestigious aided schools’ switching to Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) will affect the chance of children from grassroots families to enjoy high-quality education. The population census conducted in 2002 found that only 22% of these children could receive higher education, compared with 54% for children hailing from the 10% affluent families in Hong Kong.
