About the speakers:
Professor Anthony Cheung is currently the Research Chair Professor of Public Administration with the Department of Asian and Policy Studies at EdUHK. From 2008 to 2012, Professor Cheung was President of The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd), the predecessor of EdUHK. From 2012 to 2017, he was Secretary for Transport and Housing and Chairman of theHousing Authority. He is also Adjunct Professor at the Institute for Public Policy, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
Professor Loh is currently a board member of the Robert HN Ho Family Foundation, board member of CDP Worldwide, board member of the Global Maritime Forum, member of the BASF Stakeholder Advisory Council, and an Advisor to the WYNG Master Award in photography. She also teaches a course on non-market risks at the Anderson School of Management, University of California at Los Angeles. She is a published author of many academic and popular works. Her expertise in environmental policy is well-known, including advising the World Health Organization and International Energy Agency on issues relating to air pollution and public health.
Professor Donald Low is currently Senior Lecturer and Professor of Practice at the Institute of Public Policy of the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology as well as the Director of Leadership and Public Policy Executive Education. He is an accomplished consultant and lecturer in economics and behavioral economics, decision-making and risk analysis, inequality and social policy, complexity in public policy, organizational behavior, and the politics and governance of Singapore.
About the Policy Dialogue Series:
In the 2020-21 academic year, the two universities will cooperate again to host 6 new dialogue sessions. Professor Anthony Cheung will be joined by another professor (plus other speaker as appropriate) in the relevant field to explore some contemporary public policy challenges facing Hong Kong, as follows:
(1) Still ‘Two Systems’?: Hong Kong under national security law and new global geopolitical environment
(2) The impact of COVID-19 pandemic: Crisis management, and governance and policy priorities
(3) The Fury of Young People: Aspirations, mobility, and identity politics
(4) Housing Affordability: Can there be breakthrough solutions?
(5) The Constraint City: Livability, mobility, connectivity and sustainability
(6)‘Hong Kong China’: Global city or just another city of China?
The Policy Dialogue Series is interactive and encourages the participation of the EdUHK and HKUST community.
Due to the implementation of public health measures to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus on university campuses, thePolicy Dialogue Series will adopt an online mode in semester 1 via zoom. If the situation allows in Semester 2, an additional physical seminar will be held at EdUHK/ HKUST campus. More details will be announced later.
