Dr Lawrence Ho Ka-ki on how to amend relations between police and public
Ming Pao reported that as the protests against the extradition bill continue, clashes between the police and protestors are escalating. In regard to how to amend police-public relations, Dr Lawrence Ho Ka-ki, Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Sciences said that "political issues should be solved by political means". He said that an independent inquiry to review the problems is the most effective way right now to win back trust from the public.
He pointed out that the police has made years of efforts in improving communication with the public, through setting up facebook page and opening youtube channel and more, but the effect is limited. Improving communication alone cannot appease the public's political concerns, he added, saying that top government officials must take political measures to deal with them.
