Professor Jim Chi-yung on planting new trees to withstand strong typhoons in HK
- Ta Kung Pao reported that Typhoon Mangkhut swept down tens of thousands of trees in Hong Kong last year, and no new trees have been planted in their place.
- Professor Jim Chi-yung, Research Chair Professor of Geography & Environmental Science, was quoted as saying that in case of another signal No.10 typhoon this year, the new trees planted would not be able to withstand the strong gust.
- He suggested the government should make thorough planning when planting new trees so that they can develop into an ecological system to increase their chance of survival in the face of strong typhoons.
