Creative Environmental Practices (STEM)–QEF project sharing
Environmental protection means recycling?
Environmental protection means water saving and power saving?
Environmental protection is actually a fun and interesting creative game!
At present, environmental education in primary school emphasises human's fault and the prohibition of all kinds of behaviours that damage the environment. But it may be monotonous and boring for primary school students, and discouraging them from practicipating in environmental protection activities.
The Department of Science and Environmental Studies of The Education University of Hong Kong has launched a Quality Education Fund (QEF) project, named the "Developing and Promoting Creative Environmental Practices for/ in Primary School Education". We tried to combine creativity and STEM skills to "play environmental protection" with 150 upper primary students from eight different primary schools and solve environmental problems in their daily lives. In this lecture, we will share our experiences in creative environmental STEM teaching, with a view to promote this unique education concept throughout Hong Kong.
