On 19th January 2025, BEd(ICT) year 4 students Ng Wing Kiu (Joanne) and Chan Wai Yi (Kelly) recently made waves at the HK Techathon+2025 competition, where they proudly earned the distinguished Bronze medal along with a cash prize of HKD 3000. Guided by the expert mentorship of Dr. Singh Manpreet, they devised a groundbreaking business model that directly confronts the urgent mental health issues plaguing Hong Kong. Their innovative app, "Oasis," revolutionizes how individuals seek relief by allowing users to quickly locate and book stress relief booths designed to cater to their unique needs. Each booth offers relaxation services—including meditation and counseling—set within customizable environments incorporating interactive features, enhancing the overall experience. This pioneering project not only underscores the immense potential of integrating technology with mental health support but also highlights the vital role that students and professionals play in fostering community well-being. By addressing mental health with such a thoughtful and accessible approach, Ng and Chan are paving the way for a future where relief and support are just a click away, transforming the landscape of mental health care in an increasingly demanding world.

This competition significantly enhances the position of The Education University of Hong Kong (EduHK) in promoting STEM education for girls. Their success story not only showcases the capabilities of female students in STEM but also motivates others to pursue similar paths. The resources and support provided by the MIT department and their advisor, Dr. Singh, were crucial to this achievement. This award emphasizes women's empowerment in STEM education, encouraging them to explore their interests in technology and problem-solving, thereby helping to bridge the gender gap in these vital fields.
