MACAU:
The gaming industry and moral education

The gaming industry is the pillar of Macau's economy. This poses great challenges for educators when discussing the subject with students or when providing guidance on whether to join the industry. Professor So Chiu-ho from the University of Macau suggested an integrated approach in moral education consisting of six major moral teaching pedagogies – the rationale building, consideration, values clarification, values analysis, cognitive moral development and social action models. The approach aims to help students understand the issue from diverse perspectives and build their analytical strengths, while not indoctrinating them with absolute values to totally deny gaming.

MAINLAND CHINA:
Aspects on "rights protection" education

Arousing awareness for the defence of one's own rights is a crucial issue in civic education in Mainland China. Sun Yat-sen University lecturer, Sheng Zhide, shared a parent's viewpoint on how primary schools can nurture a child's sense of democracy, civic responsibility, values and respect for life, as well as awareness of environmental protection, via messages in the textbooks of subjects such as Language, Ethics and Society, etc. Another lecturer from the University, Chen Shuqiong covered two strategies to nurture education on the protection of individual rights: preventing schools from carrying out practices that infringe on human rights, such as causally expelling students from school, student searches and the use of offensive language by teachers. She also pointed out that it is necessary to guide students who abuse the rights of others when they make unreasonable demands.
