Seminar: Cultivating Global Entrepreneurial Mindsets Through Practice-Based Entrepreneurial Learning: Insights From a Partnership Between Norway and South Africa

The question of whether entrepreneurs are born or made was the central theme of a GS seminar presented by Mr Kelvin Ivanković from Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) on December 17, 2024. Mr Ivanković used findings from a dynamic exchange programme between Norway and South Africa to explain that entrepreneurial mindsets can be cultivated through educational practices.

The seminar unpacked the objectives, activities, continuous insights, and implications associated with the experiential work programme. Students from both countries are given the opportunity to work in real-world businesses that concentrate on tackling sustainability challenges and bringing sustainable solutions to the market. By integrating experiential and cross-cultural learning, the programme enriches students’ entrepreneurial capabilities, promotes personal growth, and boosts self-efficacy, thus preparing them to become influential entrepreneurs capable of contributing to sustainable and innovative solutions on a global scale.

Following the seminar, Mr Ivanković answered questions relating to the research aspect of the programme. The discussion focused on research methodology, evaluating the programme’s effectiveness, and the significance of the relationship between innate traits and trained skills in the cultivation of entrepreneurs.

Mr Kelvin Ivanković is a PhD Research Fellow in the innovation research group at the Business School of the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.
