From March 7-9th 2024, Dr Sedat Gümüş, Associate Professor, and Dr Paul Campbell, Research Assistant Professor, both in the Department of Education Policy and Leadership (EPL) attended and supported the 17th International Education Management Congress at Medeniyet University in Istanbul, Türkiye. The congress was hosted and organized by the Turkish Association of Education Administrators and Supervisors (EYEDDER-EARDA). Dr Gümüş and Dr Campbell made a variety of contributions to the congress. EPL supported with the organization and facilitation of a Graduate Student Workshop which included a series of seminars and mentoring opportunities focused on ensuring graduate students in education management and leadership have a productive postgraduate education process, determine effective thesis proposals and research topics, foster national and international collaborations, and create impact through their work.
Dr Gümüş, a longtime member of the association, and Dr Campbell presented research papers and participated in an international panel discussion examining the future of educational leadership, management and administration research alongside Professor Marcus Pietsch from the Institute of Educational Sciences at Leuphana University, Germany, and Professor Sefika Mertkan from the Faculty of Education at Eastern Mediterranean University, North Cyprus.
Dr Gümüş and Dr Campbell also visited a school in Istanbul, meeting with the Principal, teachers, and students to learn more about the education system and its development in Türkiye.
