EdUHK Holds Academic Workshops at Umm Al-Qura University to Strengthen Partnership with the Middle East
A delegation from The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) recently visited Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) in Saudi Arabia to strengthen collaborative partnerships in academic cooperation. The visit featured a series of workshops designed to equip UQU faculty members with essential research skills.
The EdUHK delegation was led by Associate Vice President (Internationalisation) Professor Lo Sing-kai, and joined by Chair Professor in the Department of Early Childhood Education Professor Li Hui and Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of English Language Education Dr Artem Zadorozhnyy. They were warmly welcomed by UQU representatives, including President Professor Moaddi bin Muhammad Aal Madh-hab, Vice President for Business Development and Community Partnership Professor Wardah Abdullah Al-Asmari, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr Muhammad Salem Al-Zahrani and General Supervisor of the International and Local Partnerships Unit Dr Suhad Sonbul.
The workshops on 23 and 24 December 2024 focused on essential academic and research skills, covering topics of writing effective research grant proposals, applying artificial intelligence in language education, and publishing in leading international journals for early-career researchers. These sessions were attended by deans, vice deans, and more than 900 faculty members.
Professor Al-Asmari highlighted the visit as a significant step in strengthening ties between the two institutions. She expressed confidence in the partnership’s potential to advance shared goals in scientific research, joint postgraduate programmes, and student and faculty exchanges. Professor Lo expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stated the visit marked an important milestone for both sides and underscored EdUHK’s commitment to fostering meaningful international collaboration.
