Dr Tsang Yiu-fai Serves on National Science Foundation Review Panel
Dr TSANG, Yiu-fai | Assistant Professor, Department of Science and Environmental Studies
Dr Tsang Yiu-fai, Assistant Professor of the Department of Science and Environmental Studies at The Education University of Hong Kong, was recently invited to serve on the grant proposal review panel of the Partnerships for Innovation: Building Innovation Capacity programme organised by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the United States. Dr Tsang submitted his reviews and ratings on six proposals by email and video conference to the programme’s Smart Environmental and Water Systems panel in March.
With an annual budget of US$7.5 billion (in fiscal year 2016), the NSF is the funding source for approximately 24 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted at colleges and universities in the United States. Dr Tsang was chosen because of his expertise and background in environmental engineering, as he serves as an Associate Editor for Water Environment Research (published by the Water Environment Federation, a global water sector leader with a mission to connect water professionals, enrich their expertise, increase awareness of the impact and value of water and provide a platform for water sector innovation), as well as Editor-in-Chief of Energy and Environment (SAGE Publishing) and Subject Editor for Process Safety and Environmental Protection (Elsevier).
Despite his busy schedule, Dr Tsang undertook the voluntary service solely to consider the value that the proposed projects might add to the world. He also takes up various editorial and advisory positions at a number of reputable societies and associations such as the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Korean Society of Environmental Engineers.
