EdUHK Signs MoU with Two Universities in Kazakhstan to Establish the Academy of Education
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University (Abai KazNPU) and Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University (KNWTTU) today (25 November) to establish “The EdUHK-Kazakh Academy of Education”. The collaboration is designed to provide a high-quality international development platform for pre-service and in-service teachers in Kazakhstan, enhancing the professional capabilities of local educators and fostering knowledge transfer and sharing between EdUHK and countries in Central Asia.
The signing ceremony was held on EdUHK's Tai Po campus. Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, EdUHK President, Professor Bolat Tilep, Rector of Abai KazNPU, and Dr Gulmira Qanay, Rector of KNWTTU signed the MoU on behalf of their respective universities. Other guests attending the ceremony included Professor May Cheng May-hung, EdUHK Vice President (Academic), Professor Lo Sing-kai, Associate Vice President (Internationalisation), Professor Ken Yung Kin-lam, Associate Vice President (Research); Dr Bayan Sapargaliyeva, Director of International Affairs of Abai KazNPU; and Mr Zakir Jumakulov, Vice-Rector for Research and International Collaborations of KNWTTU.
At the signing ceremony, EdUHK President Professor Lee said the partnership underscores the University’s commitment to advancing educational collaboration with countries in the Belt and Road initiative. By further strengthening exchanges and collaboration with the Central Asia region, the University aims to foster the internationalisation of education and its high-quality development. He expressed confidence in the future of the jointly established Academy of Education and looked forward to EdUHK’s continued significant impact on the education landscape in Belt and Road countries.
Mr Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, recorded a congratulatory video to celebrate the establishment of the Academy of Education and praised EdUHK for its contributions to the educational development in the Central Asia region.
The jointly established Academy of Education will facilitate academic exchange in various fields, including artificial intelligence in education, educational assessment, educational leadership, and inclusive education. The institutions will also collaborate on teacher education training, joint research projects, and multicultural exchanges. The partnership will further promote knowledge transfer and sharing between EdUHK and countries along the Silk Road in Central Asia, such as Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
