EdUHK Hosts the First Global Heads Forum in Education to Foster Global Education Reform

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held the First Global Heads Forum in Education and the inaugural conference of the Global Alliance of Educational Leaders and Department Heads (GAELDH) at Innocentre from 28 to 29 November. It aimed to connect education leaders and departmental heads from different regions, facilitate the exchange of practices, and promote educational reform.

 

With the theme of “Digitalisation and AI-Empowerment of Child Education: Changes, Challenges, and Chances”, the forum strengthened cross-cultural collaboration among education leaders, EdUHK partnered with Central China Normal University (CCNU) to jointly establish the GAELDH, to advance educational reform through policy improvement, leadership development, and advocating for quality education standards.

 

The guests attending the event were the Chairperson of GAELDH cum EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, Vice President of CCNU Professor Sannyuya Liu, Dean of the Graduate School of CCNU Professor Lei Wanpeng, EdUHK Vice President (Academic) Professor May Cheng May-hung, EdUHK Associate Vice President (Quality Assurance) Professor Susanna Yeung Siu-sze, , and over 200 education leaders and departmental heads from around the globe. Keynote speakers included: Professor Laura M. Justice, Professor X. Christine Wang, Professor Deng Meng, Professor Kenneth Sin Kuen Fung, Professor Marek Tesar, Professor Therese M. Cumming, Professor Philip Li Hui, and Professor Lei Wanpeng.

 

In his opening remarks, Professor Lee expressed his hope that the forum would allow educators, researchers and thought leaders from different countries and regions to engage in deep exchanges and collaboration, thereby helping nurture the next generation. He said that with the widespread application of artificial intelligence in society, the University has been committed to various innovative technological measures to incorporate artificial intelligence into education. This includes creating in-house AI tools, introducing pedagogical approaches for using AI-enabled tools, and launching the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in AI and Educational Technology and the Master of Science in AI and Educational Technology programmes, to meet the needs of the education sector.

 

The forum featured keynote speeches by eight internationally renowned education researchers, paper presentations by various scholars, and activities such as the Global South Forum, discussing topics like early childhood education policy, digitalisation in special education, and AI in children's education. It also provided an opportunity to expand new international, intercultural and multidisciplinary research networks.
