EdUHK Holds Honorary Doctorate Conferment Ceremony

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held the Honorary Doctorate Conferment Ceremony today (22 November) on its Tai Po campus. EdUHK Council Chairman Dr David Wong Yau-kar presided over the ceremony and conferred honorary doctorates on four distinguished scholars and social leaders, in recognition of their remarkable contributions in advancing education and dedication to public service. They are (in alphabetical order by surname):

 

  • Professor Stephen J Ball, FBA, FAcSS 
  • Professor Marilyn Cochran-Smith
  • Professor Frederick Ma Si-hang, GBS, JP 
  • Dr The Hon Maria Tam Wai-chu, GBM, GBS, JP  

 

EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin paid tribute to all of the recipients at the ceremony. He praised them for their distinguished achievements in their respective fields and enormous contribution to society, adding that they were role models deserving of profound admiration. “Professor Stephen J Ball is an eminent researcher in the field of education policy, dedicating to reforming education and analysing policy to tackle social inequality; Professor Marilyn Cochran-Smith is highly respected internationally in aspects of teacher education research, practice and policy. She has sustained commitment to teaching and teacher education for equity and social justice,” he said.

 

“As a former EdUHK Council Chairman, Professor Frederick Ma Si-hang is committed to educational development and also dedicated to social affairs; The Hon Maria Tam Wai-chu has contributed to the betterment of society and the wellbeing of Hong Kong for over five decades, holding prominent positions in law, public service and politics,” Professor Lee added.

 

Honorary Doctorate Conferment Ceremonies have been held since 2016 to recognise outstanding members of society, who have devoted their efforts in advancing education as scholars and practitioners, or exemplary leaders in other professions, businesses and industries.
