To promote the development of STEAM education across Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), in collaboration with South China Normal University (SCNU) and the University of Macau (UM), hosted an inauguration ceremony and forum on 22 March to mark the establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance for Primary and Secondary STEAM Education (GHMU-APSSE). The event brought together more than 180 STEAM education experts and scholars from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region to witness this significant milestone.

The GHMU-APSSE brings together experts in STEAM education from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, aiming to create a cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary collaborative development model for STEAM education in primary and secondary schools across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). It seeks to enhance the interdisciplinary teaching skills of student teachers in member schools and cultivate more interdisciplinary innovative talents for the GBA.

Attending the ceremony were EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin; Dean of the School of Information Technology in Education at SCNU Professor Ke Qingchao; Dean of the Faculty of Education at the UM, Professor Fan Lianghuo; as well as representatives from universities and schools in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region.

This alliance will strengthen communication and collaboration among STEAM education experts in GBA, enabling us to explore improved teaching and learning methods to enhance the effectiveness of STEAM education. We aspire to contribute significantly to building a leading country in education.”

Following the ceremony, the GHMU-APSSE Forum began, with Professor Hu Weiping from Shaanxi Normal University and Professor Luo Xingkai from Guangxi Normal University as keynote speakers. They shared insights on the construction and practice of STEAM education systems in primary and secondary schools and the collaborative innovation in technology literacy education between universities and these schools, particularly in exploration and reflection regarding teacher training.
