EdUHK and EdCity Join Hands to Foster Artificial Intelligence and Computational Thinking

To align with the 2024 Policy Address that encourages the development of STEAM education and also digital education in education sector, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and Hong Kong Education City (EdCity) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 14 March to foster the promotion of Artificial Intelligence and Computational Thinking.

 

The MoU was signed by EdUHK Vice President (Academic) Professor May Cheng May-hung and EdCity Executive Director Dr Tenny Lam Fung, and witnessed by the HKSAR Government Secretary for Education Dr Choi Yuk-lin, EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin and EdCity Board of Directors Chairman Mr Armstrong Lee Hon-cheung.

 

EdUHK and EdCity signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly drive the digital transformation of education in Hong Kong. The collaboration will focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and computational thinking (CT) education, providing professional training and development opportunities for educators. Cooperative activities include incorporating AI and CT skills into curriculum design, leveraging educational technology (EdTech) and AI tools to create personalised learning experiences, and organising seminars and conferences to facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building. Additionally, EdCity will offer internship opportunities and professional development training for EdUHK undergraduate students, enhancing their employability and promoting mutual enhancement of teaching and learning. 

 

Representatives attending the ceremony also included EdUHK Vice President (Administration) Dr Tom Fong Wing-ho, Associate Vice President (Quality Assurance) Professor Susanna Yeung Siu-sze, Associate Vice President (Mainland Engagement and Development) cum Director of Communications and Engagement Ms Helen Gai Hui Xia, Director of Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology Professor Xu Guandong, as well as Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Digital Competency Education Centre Professor Kong Siu-cheung.


On the same occasion, EdCity also signed MoUs with Smart City Consortium, Cyber Port and The Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, in promoting the development of AI in Education.

 

The recently published Audit Report on the University by the Quality Assurance Council under the University Grants Committee recognised the University’s responsiveness to adapting its portfolio to address evolving societal needs, and its effectiveness in reviewing the procedures related to the use of AI. Following the launch of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technology and the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technology, EdUHK plans to offer a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence for Executive Professionals and a Master of Arts in Emerging Technology for Future Workforce to keep up-to-date with technological advancements and transformations in industry.

 

With its ‘Education Futures’ approach, EdUHK dedicated to researching and promoting the application of AI in education, nurturing ‘future-ready’ talent, and contributing to the education development of Hong Kong SAR, the nation, and the world.
