Mr Lau Chun-wah received his Bachelor of Arts and Postgraduate Diploma in Education from The University of Hong Kong. He co-founded the Cognitio Matriculation Evening Institute and Cognitio College, serving in positions as school principal and board member, among others. Principal Lau enjoys music, drama and poetry recital, and believes that music can offer positive subliminal guidance, soothing the mind while building character. He is the founder and choir director of the Hong Kong Principals’ Choir (HKPC), an adjudicator for the Hong Kong School Speech Festival and an amateur songwriter and lyricist. 

 

Principal Lau’s works include songs that inspire and empower participants to live an engaged and aspiring life, songs that promote understanding and dissemination of Chinese culture, as well as motivational pieces and school anthems written for various kindergartens, primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. His song In Praise of Teachers has been adopted as the official theme song for the annual Teachers’ Day and Commendation Ceremony. Sing and Praise our Motherland was selected as the online theme song for ‘China Lane’, a former website designed specifically for introducing Chinese culture. His songs Doctor, You are Excellent, Heart for Social Ethics and Clean Hong Kong, written in 2003 during the SARS outbreak, were recorded by the HKPC and school choirs to raise funds and awareness for the fight against the epidemic. His latest piece, Proper Manners Run the World – to Harmony to Benefit All, is the official theme song written at the invitation of The Hong Kong Institute for Promotion of Chinese Culture for their latest Cultural Inheritance Campaign to promote traditional Chinese etiquette culture to kindergarten, primary and secondary school students, parents, and teachers. Many of his lyrics promoting a positive outlook on life have been selected as recitation materials for the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival.

 

Principal Lau has published Chinese Poetry in Tunes: Singing Your Way to Easily Learning Chinese Poetry, Beautiful Songs! Beautiful Life! and Musical Magic under the Sunny Sky CDs and instructional materials, as well as the latest songbook for Dominic Savio Kindergarten, Witty and Funny Songs for Little Kids, to promote moral and civic education.
