Invitation to participate in the Research Project Titled [WonderBuddy: Developing and Testing a Learning Platform for Fostering Children’s Computational Thinking and STEM Habits of Mind]

2024-07-26

The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) and its integration into various facets of daily life has heralded a new era in education. Given this context, the study aims to gauge the efficacy of WonderBuddy, an integrated multimodal learning platform, in enhancing children's engagement in STEM learning, fostering computational thinking skills, and promoting creativity.

Procedure of the Research

  1. K1, K2 and K3 classes, with all the teachers and children (approximately 120pax) will be included as research participants.
  2. Teachers will receive a 2-hour workshop training on a Sunday.
  3. The period of participation will last 10 weeks, with two weeks for child assessment and teacher training; eight weeks for curriculum activities.
  4. The target classes will have weekly class observation and on-site feedback.
  5. 1-hour post-intervention interview for each teacher

Potential Benefits

  1. All teachers in K1/K2/K3 classes will receive free training, learn effective teaching strategies with the support of the WonderBuddy application.
  2. Kindergartens will have the opportunity to collaborate with the EdUHK research team to incorporate the most advanced computational thinking and STEM educational activities into their school-based curricula with the support of an innovative learning app.
  3. The participating teachers can receive a $100 cash coupon per person.

Research Result

Research results and curriculum products will be disseminated through conferences, practitioner workshops, public websites, social media and publications.
