‘Guangdong-Hong Kong Sister Kindergarten Exchange Programme Signing Ceremony and Annual Exchange Activity’ Successfully Held at the EdUHK

The Education Bureau (EDB) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Department of Education of Guangdong Province held the Guangdong-Hong Kong Sister Kindergarten Exchange Programme Signing Ceremony and Annual Exchange Activity on June 14 at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). Over 2,400 kindergarten principals, teachers, academics and experts from Hong Kong and different cities in Guangdong Province participated in person and online in parallel. Following the signing ceremony, the Annual Exchange Activity (a professional seminar) was held by the EDB of the Government of the HKSAR and the Department of Education of Guangdong Province in collaboration with the EdUHK.

The Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin; Deputy Director-General of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Mr Feng Wei; the First-level Inspector of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Mr Liu Maozhou; and Vice President of the EdUHK, Ms Sarah Wong, officiated at the Signing Ceremony and Annual Exchange Activity. Together with the Permanent Secretary for Education, Ms Michelle Li, and other representatives from EDB of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the officiating guests also witnessed the signing of the Agreement on the Guangdong-Hong Kong Sister Kindergarten Learning Circle by representatives of 100 kindergartens from Guangdong Province and Hong Kong. Mr Donny Siu (Director of Global Affairs), Dr Rebecca Cheng (Associate Dean of the Faculty of Education and Human Development (FEHD)), Dr Ricci Fong and Dr Jiang Da (Assistant Dean of the FEHD), Prof Kerry Lee (Head of Department of Early Childhood Education) and more than 20 staff from the Department of Early Childhood Education (ECE Department) also attended the activity and interacted with guests from the EDB and the Department of Education of Guangdong Province.

The subsequent professional seminar was held with Dr Li Jianbin (Associate Head (Community Engagement) and Associate Professor) as the facilitator, where three Assistant Professors of ECE Department, Dr Wu Dandan, Dr Kong Siu Hang, and Dr Lam Ho Cheong, and four experienced kindergarten principals from Guangdong Province presented various topics to explore how to promote Chinese culture to kindergarten students in diversified modes and exchanged practical experiences with the sector. Apart from the professional seminar, participating kindergartens will launch various professional exchange activities through different channels and in diversified modes to  further raise the professionalism of teachers in both places and enhanced the quality of kindergarten education.
