Two ECE graduates have designed teaching kits for Orbis, an international eyecare NGO, that will help children learn to take care of their vision.
Cheung Chui Shan and Fung Tsz Ying graduated from ECE's Higher Diploma programme in 2021/22. The graduates were chosen to be student helpers by Orbis to produce educational videos and electronic slides.
Using the knowledge and skills they learned at EdUHK, they designed a series of fun, interactive games that connect eye health to children's life experiences and abilities.
In one of the games, children need to find and wear suitable eye care products from a wardrobe. The games include role play and cartoons, as well as ideas for parent-child activities. Together, these combine to encourage children to practise eye exercises and make eye-healthy food with their parents to help reinforce their learning.
"We are very honoured to be a part of the project," said Cheung. "In the process of designing the teaching kits, we gained a better understanding of eyecare knowledge and changed our perspective on eye health".
The teaching resources will be shared with kindergartens throughout Hong Kong at Orbis workshops.
