In mid-May, Dr. Chan Po-lin, Associate Head of the Department of Early Childhood Education, led a group of graduating students from the Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Early Childhood Education programme to visit the Education University of Hong Kong Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC) to share traditional Chinese educational toys with young children. Through this activity, the team encouraged children to explore various traditional Chinese educational toys, to have fun while learning, and to enhance emotional communication with each other as they gained a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
By getting to know traditional Chinese educational toys, children can experience and understand Chinese culture while playing. The process of exploration also strengthens their problem-solving skills.
During the activity, children thought about and explored how to make the toy acrobat and the tin rooster move. This process not only cultivates children's hand-eye coordination and problem-solving abilities but also promotes communication and cooperation among children, enabling them to help and share with each other, building friendships and trust.
In addition, through the activity, we observed that even a simple tin frog toy could bring joy to young children. This activity provides an interesting way to learn about Chinese while fostering imagination and creativity in young minds. We believe that through this activity, graduating students can gain rich experiences and insights, as well as establish friendships and enhance their team spirit through interaction.
