ECE Lecturer Mr. Ken Chan Chung Kit invited Ms. Angela Yang, the Director of Professional & Education Development at the PAP Community Foundation, which runs 360 preschools in Singapore, to give an online guest lecture to BEd ECE students on 28 February 2023, in the context of his course “Working with Families from Diverse Backgrounds”.
Ms. Yang's talk focused on how home-school collaborations positively impact children’s learning and development in multicultural Singapore. She also shared how early childhood educators can work with families from diverse backgrounds in culturally sensitive and respectful ways.
Mr. Chan shared, “Through the talk, my students gained an overview of the policies, programs, and initiatives at the national and preschool levels meant to increase parental involvement in their children’s learning journey.”
In the feedback form, students wrote that Ms. Yang’s talk gave them insights into the Singapore kindergarten setting, system, and culture and how the early childhood education curriculum and resources are developed and implemented in Singapore.
