The Center for Religious Education and Spiritual Education of The Education University of Hong Kong held a conference “Life, Education, Knowledge, Intention, and Behavior: Conference on Life Education Academic and Professional Practice” in 2012, inviting scholars, principals, teachers, and other front-line professionals engaged in life education across the Taiwan Strait.
The goal of putting forward “life education” is very clear, that is, to fundamentally correct the bias of intellectual education in the school education under the doctrine of further education, so as to provide children with the opportunity to learn and explore the meaning of life, cultivate ideal sentiment, and cherish the opportunity and environment of caring others . Education in the 21st century is about making students better, which is more important than getting smarter.
As suggested by the theme of the conference, “Life, Education, Knowledge, Intention, and Behavior”, in addition to imparting knowledge, life education and moral education place the focus on students’ emotions and experiences in real life, as well as their motivation and practical implementation. This is what all scholars and educators who are concerned about life education should pay attention to.
This book contains 27 dissertations and articles of teaching practices from life education scholars and front-line educators across the Taiwan Straits, and is endorsed by Chen Yinghao, Lu Jie, and Gu Mingyuan, three key leaders in the development of life education.
