Activities

Organizational / School-based outreach services: Based on contextually relevant information and insights, the consultants will collaborate with practitioners in the policy making and the design of context-sensitive strategies which catalyze educational reform through the empowerment of organizations / schools.

 
Professional Development: Currently, the unit organizes on-site Professional Development, School-based Workshop and Short Course to cater for the needs of the early childhood education sector. It also promotes inter-professional collaboration to enhance the quality of early childhood education. This will be extended into the years of schooling over the next 3 years.

Parent involvement activities : The unit aims to promote the well-being of children by cultivating interactive partnerships among parents, schools and community.

Specifically, the unit will organize parent involvement seminars and workshops to provide parents with knowledge and skills for nurturing children.  

Education Development Fund - University-school Support Programme - Empowering Early Childhood Institutions in Implementing Effective School-Based Curriculum: In 2006, a revised Guide to the Pre-primary Curriculum was issued by the EMB to promote child-centered learning for children’s holistic development. Subsequently, HKIEd was commissioned by the EMB in providing professional development to 800 Curriculum Leaders each year on the implementation of the revised Guide from 2007 to 2009.This three-year project (2008-2010) is funded by the EDB with a view to build upon the momentum of the aforesaid professional development programme to enhance curriculum leadership through school-based support. It also aims to establish a model of effective school-based curriculum in Hong Kong preschools building on their existing curriculum practices.Curriculum Development Consultants also work with their respective partner schools through a 12-month cycle, followed by a self-monitored cycle of curriculum development strengthened through sharing in the website.

The Professional Development and Support Unit

This unit provides quality professional development and supporting services to the Hong Kong early childhood education sector.  Our service draws on active learning strategies based on prominent educational philosophies, which is culturally sensitive to the local context.    The unit plans to expand the services to parents as well as the primary education sector in the coming year.  

We will provide on-site Professional Development Programmes, School-based Workshops, Short  Courses and Quality Improvement Schemes to cater the needs of individual schools and childhood institutions.
