Congratulatory Messages

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) on becoming Hong Kong’s newest university. EdUHK, of course, has served the Hong Kong community well since 1994, when it was formally established as The Hong Kong Institute of Education.
This landmark granting of university title, in May, speaks of the commendable progress the former Institute has made over the years. Today, EdUHK shines not only in teacher education but in academic research. In addition, its “Education-plus” vision continues to evolve, with multidisciplinary offerings now ranging from the humanities and the social sciences to the creative arts and culture.
EdUHK’s innovative approach has been widely recognised. In this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject, the University placed second in Asia and 12th in the world in education, a ringing re ection of the school’s longstanding commitment to excellence.
Rather than an end in itself, however, the granting of university title serves as a fresh beginning for EdUHK. I am con dent that it will continue to expand its academic horizons, continue to play a distinctive role in advancing education in Hong Kong and throughout the Asian region.
My thanks to The Education University of Hong Kong’s visionary leadership and its dedicated teachers for the generations of students it has inspired, for the generations still to come.
