Initiation Ceremony cum Inaugural Career Seminar

The initiation ceremony cum inaugural career seminar for the SURE Partnership Project was held on 15 January 2016, attracting up to 200 students and members of different industries.

Officiating at the event was Prof. Cheung Yan-leung, EdUHK President; Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Secretary for Labor and Welfare; Hon. Dr. Ann Chiang Lai-wan, the sole sponsor of the Project; Dr. Jacky Cheung Wah-keung, President of the Hong Kong Youth Industrialists Council; Mr. Ryan Lau Chun-kong, esteemed media professional; Principal Yu Tai-wai, Chairman of the New Territories School Heads Association; Principal Tsang Kee-kung, ex-Principal of Kiangsu-Chekiang College (Kwai Chung); Prof. John Lee Chi-kin, EdUHK Vice President (Academic); and Prof. Christina Yu Wai-mui, Principal Project Investigator of the SURE Partnership Project.

In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Cheung Yan-leung underlined EdUHK’s pursuit of instigating career and life planning education amongst pre-service teachers and students, while Hon. Dr. Ann Chiang Lai-wan, during her opening address, shared her views on making career choices and the importance of giving students the opportunity to better understand themselves through work experiences.

Following the initiation ceremony, the keynote speakers spoke in-depth about their respective fields and professions.

Hon. Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung talked about the trends of Hong Kong’s labour market and highlighted the potential of the aviation, building, elderly care, and digital industries.

Dr. Jacky Cheung Wah-keung offered his insights on the manufacturing sector of Hong Kong and the challenges and opportunities it faces.

Mr. Ryan Lau Chun-kong shared his experiences of career transitions and offered invaluable advice on the pursuit of goals and aspirations.
