SSPS PhD student shines in eminent international journal
Mr Sai Htong Kham recently published a paper in the International Journal of Qualitative Methods, one of the leading journals in the field of social sciences. Entitled “Outsider From Within, Insider From Without: Negotiating Researcher Positionality in Comparative Social Research”, the author shared his experiences as an “in-out-sider” while conducting the fieldwork in Thailand, discussing the issue of conceptualising and practising positionality.
Dr Izzy Jian received the Innovation of the Year award
Happy Ageing Lab Foundation, for which Dr. Jian Yi Izzy serves as the Director and a key team member, has received the Innovation of the Year award in the Active Ageing Community category at the 12th Eldercare Innovation Award 2024@ World Ageing Festival organized by Ageing Asia for the project “Hou2 Living Gallery @ CityOne Shatin – Participatory Estate Improvement Programme for an Age-Friendly Living Environment”.
Dr Matt Ma received funding support for his project
Dr Ma Kin Hang Matt, lecturer I of SSPS, has received the funding support from Lord Wilson Heritage Trust (衞奕信勳爵文物信託) with an amount of HK$413,085 in its 2023-2024 exercise for his project titled “The Study of Hong Kong’s Traditional Rite Music in the Context of Cultural Exchange in the Pearl River Delta” (粵港澳文化往來脈絡下的香港傳統儀仗及醮師儀式音樂)
Embarking on a Journey of Multicultural Discovery: BSocSc(GCS) Students Explore Tokyo
In an enriching exploration of multiculturalism, students from the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Greater China Studies [BSocSc(GCS)] embarked on Programme End-term Activity – Field Visit to Tokyo, Japan, from 18 – 22 April 2024. This immersive journey aimed to broaden the student's understanding of cultural diversity through firsthand experiences.
Ms Peng Yunyang received funding support for her project
Ms Peng Yunyang, SSPS year-two Edd (Chinese class) student under the supervision of Dr. Xiao Hanyu, has just received funding support from Guangzhou Concord Medical Humanities Research and Education Fund (广州泰和医学人文研究教育基金) for her project titled “医方信息供应与患方行为及评价研究:基于大数据模型余机器学习的方法”. This project is one of the 16 funded projects that are shortlisted from around 119 research proposals submitted from all over China and the only funded project from Hong Kong.
