The Awardee of the President’s Commendation in Arts and Cultures in 2021/22

CHAN Wing Lam

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Creative Arts and Culture and Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Music) Programme

The Awardee of the President’s Commendation in Arts and Cultures in 2021/22

I began my musical journey after being introduced to Chinese music when I was a kid.

Since 2015, I have participated in a variety of international competitions. These events have helped me to gradually improve and push myself to new heights. In particular, I have competed in three different categories in the Nan Feng International Music Competition. As one of the participants representing Hong Kong, my teammates and I finally won the gold award in the Ensemble group Junior and the silver award in both the Ensemble group Open and the Junior B category of Liuqin and Zhongruan. This tournament is very meaningful to me since it allowed me to demonstrate my improvements. Through the interaction with people from all around the world, I also learnt more about Chinese music culture.

Chinese music has brought me to this wonderful world of music, and I hope that through education, I can pass on this valuable experience to the next generation and help to preserve traditional Chinese culture.

The Education University of Hong Kong considers it vital to encourage students’ active engagement in co-curricular activities so as to build value systems and personalities, broaden horizons and absorb knowledge from alternative and non-traditional sources.  The President’s Commendation Scheme (PCS) was introduced in 2010/11 as a University-level recognition of students’ non-academic achievements.
