Graduate Employment Survey
The Graduate Employment Survey (GES) is conducted by the Student Affairs Office annually, with the purpose of gaining a better understanding of the graduates’ employment situation and more details on their job process.
GES 2023 - SUMMARY OF SURVEY FINDINGS
I. FULL-TIME PRE-SERVICE PROGRAMMES
- 795 out of 898 graduates from full-time pre-service programmes completed the questionnaires (response rate 88.5%).
- Among them, 586 (73.7%) were employed, 174 (21.9%) pursued full-time further studies, 11 (1.4%) were still seeking employment, 15 (1.9%) did not seek for jobs due to personal reasons and 9 (1.1%) emigrated/returned to home country.
- The mean monthly salary received by full-time employed respondents was increased to HK$33,760 in 2023. The mean monthly salaries for graduates of sub-degree, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes were HK$19,578, HK$34,773 and HK$36,834 respectively.
- 533 full-time employed respondents engaged in the education field. Among these respondents, 523 (90.8%) held teaching posts.
- The proportion of respondents pursuing full-time further studies was 21.9%. Among the 174 respondents who provided their details to pursue full-time further studies, 165 (94.8%) enrolled in local institutions.
II. FULL-TIME COMPLEMENTARY DISCIPLINES UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
- 293 out of 338 graduates completed the questionnaires (response rate 86.7%). Among the respondents, 214 (73.0%) were employed, 53 (18.1%) pursued full-time further studies, 5 (1.7%) were still searching for a job, while 13 (4.4%) had no intention to seek employment and 8 (2.7%) emigrated/returned to home country. 93.5% full-time employed respondents, i.e. 200 graduates had secured employment in Hong Kong.
- The mean monthly salary of the full-time locally employed respondents was HK$21,109.
III. FULL-TIME RESEARCH POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
- 25 out of 30 graduates responded to the questionnaire (response rate 83.3%). 11 (44.0%) graduates were employed, while 1 (4.0%) graduate was seeking employment when the survey was conducted. No graduates had no intention to seek employment and the remaining 13 (52.0%) returned to their home country.
- The mean monthly salary of the full-time employed respondents who secured employment in Hong Kong was HK$32,500.
IV. FULL-TIME SELF-FINANCED SUB-DEGREE PROGRAMME
- 17 out of 19 graduates completed the questionnaires (response rate 89.5%). Among the respondents, all respondents were full-time employed or pursued full-time further studies (100%).
V. FULL-TIME SELF-FINANCED UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
- 89 out of 100 graduates completed the questionnaires (response rate 89.0%). 49 (55.1%) were employed, 25 (28.1%) pursued full-time further studies, 3 (3.4%) were searching for a job, 7 (7.9%) had no intention to seek employment while 5 (5.6%) respondents emigrated/returned to home country. All full-time employed respondents, i.e. 49 graduates had secured employment in Hong Kong.
- The mean monthly salary of the full-time employed respondents who secured employment in Hong Kong was HK$19,200.
VI. FULL-TIME SELF-FINANCED POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
- 1,207 out of 1,456 graduates completed the questionnaires (response rate 82.9%). 267 (22.1%) were employed, 32 (2.7%) pursued full-time further studies, 47 (3.9%) were searching for a job, 23 (1.9%) were not seeking employment, while 838 (69.4%) emigrated/returned to home country.
- 98.5% employed respondents, i.e. 263 graduates had secured full-time employment in Hong Kong.
- The mean monthly salary of full-time employed respondents who secured employment in Hong Kong was HK$25,748.
