| Course Synopsis |
This course takes students on an external, immersive field experience outside of Hong Kong, focused on the themes of urban greening and global citizenship. Through a carefully curated field experience, students will explore key topics such as ecosystem services, nature-based solutions, green infrastructure, nature-positive urban planning, and the diverse functions of urban parks. Through firsthand engagement with international sustainability initiatives, students will examine how cities around the world are addressing environmental challenges and transforming urban landscapes. Students will gain insights into nature-positive urban planning and the role of green spaces in fostering biodiversity, enhancing ecosystem services, and promoting human well-being. Students will develop crucial skills such as adaptability, cultural intelligence, and global awareness, learning to navigate complex international environments and collaborate across cultures to address urban environmental challenges. While Hong Kong has notable green infrastructure initiatives, this overseas/ non-local city experience offers unique comparative perspectives and international standards. Students will examine how different cities implement innovative solutions, gaining global insights that can enhance local practices. This international exposure develops global citizenship competencies through cross-cultural engagement and understanding of diverse approaches to urban environmental sustainability. |
