Course Synopsis

The “Make an Impact” Product Design Competition is an annual product design competition organized by CEIE for students of EdUHK and participating primary and secondary schools. This course focuses on promoting social caring and encouraging students to design and produce innovative products/prototypes or digital solutions to enhance the living of a target group. EdUHK students will participate as "EI Leaders" to mentor and support school students in the design process, fostering collaboration and knowledge transfer.

 

Throughout the course, students will engage in a series of training workshops covering topics such as prototyping with 3D printing and laser cutting, mobile app development, product design process, pitching, and more. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to showcase their final products at a public exhibition booth in a CBD venue, allowing them to share their learning outcomes with the community.

The course aims to enhance students' soft skills, including the ability to maintain good relationships with their School Teams, examine innovative solutions to social issues, and consolidate their experience in entrepreneurship and innovation for the benefit of society. By participating in diverse learning activities outside the classroom, students will be better prepared for future employment and equipped to make a positive impact on the world around them.

 

Students will be required to actively participate in and complete the three major components of “activities/experience outside the classroom” – (a) Pre-activities/experience briefing, training and/or preparation of proposal, (b) Activities/experience outside the classroom, and (c) Post-activities/experience debriefing, self-reflection and/or sharing of experience – which designed to facilitate their development and application of disciplinary knowledge, theories/concepts and specific generic skills in practical situations and contribute to stated educational and/or social goals.
