Course Synopsis | Learning about alternative education is highly beneficial for future educators as it broadens their understanding of diverse educational philosophies and practices, encouraging critical thinking about conventional methods. The course offers pre-service teachers a brief but enriching internship experience, acting as an assistant teacher for 7 school days in a representative alternative school in Hong Kong. This stint exposes them to innovative, student-centered approaches and diverse teaching methods, equipping them with strategies to meet varied learning needs. It also helps them cultivate an awareness of building close relationships with students, enhance creativity in lesson planning, and develop practical classroom management skills in an alternative setting while promoting reflective practice. Throughout the course, pre-service teachers have the chance to learn through both observation and hands-on experience, preparing them to thrive in different educational environments. Additionally, it provides valuable networking opportunities, ultimately aiding them in becoming more adaptable, empathetic, and effective educators. |
