Course Title | CLOC: ‘A Sustainable Nomadic Life in the Modern Age’ Mongolia Study Tour |
Offering Unit | Department of International Education (IE) |
Course Synopsis | In January 2016, the Government of Mongolia launched the Sustainable Development Vision 2030 (SDV), aimed at addressing the multifaceted challenges of sustainable development while aligning with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. The SDV outlines Mongolia's aspirations for 2030, focusing on ending poverty through sustainable economic growth, creating a more equal and inclusive society, improving environmental sustainability, and strengthening governance. Visiting Mongolia offers students a unique opportunity to explore how traditional wisdom and practices can be integrated with modern sustainability efforts. During this trip, students will visit a variety of sites which include: (1) Historical Heritage: Locations of educational and socio-economic significance that highlight Mongolian culture, beliefs, traditions, and history. (2) Natural Beauty: Areas that showcase the nomadic lifestyle and its sustainable development practices. Students will engage directly with Mongolian peers and nomadic families, gaining first-hand experience of their daily routines, customs, and traditional crafts. This immersion will foster a deep appreciation of the cultural heritage that shapes Mongolian identity. Additionally, an ePortfolio will be established for the study tour. Students will be encouraged to reflect on their experiences from a sustainability perspective and share their insights with peers in Hong Kong. |
