A delegation from Tokyo Gakugei University visited The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) on 6-7 January, 2025.
The delegation toured the EdUHK Library, exploring various facilities, including the advanced Extended Reality Room (XR Room). The students experienced innovative technologies, particularly the immersive 360-degree VR CAVE, and were very impressed by the potential of these technologies in education.
Professor Sylvia Tang gave an insightful lecture titled "Education and Teachers in Hong Kong." She covered four main topics: the current state of school education in Hong Kong, the evolution of educational policies, the roles of students and teachers in the education system, and the challenges and future directions of initial teacher education. Using specific case studies and data analysis, Professor Tang provided valuable professional perspectives on the diverse challenges and strategies in Hong Kong's education landscape.
The delegation had lively discussions with four EdUHK student representatives. Our student representative shared views on educational models, teaching resources, and cultural differences between the two regions, deepening their understanding of each other's educational cultures. Additionally, the students shared insights on Hong Kong's tourism, culture, and cuisine, further enriching the exchange.
In addition to visiting EdUHK, RCISEL also arranged for the delegate to visit HKKKWA Sun Fong Chung Primary School and Confucian Tai Shing Ho Kwok Pui Chun College primary school on 6 and 7 Jan 2025 respectively. They participated in classroom activities, observed local teaching methods, and interacted with students, gaining practical insights into the teaching strategies and student engagement practices in Hong Kong's primary and secondary education systems.
Overall, the visit provided Tokyo Gakugei University's faculty and students with a comprehensive understanding of Hong Kong's education system and fostered strong academic and cultural ties between the two universities.
