The final round of pitches for the 2023/24 edition of the Education+ and Social Entrepreneurs Fund (EASE Fund) was conducted EdUHK on 18 March 2024. Prof. Yeung Siu Sze Susanna’s team on the "AI Buddy for Learning Futures" project was one of the five winning start-up teams, and was awarded with a comprehensive package of entrepreneurial support worth up to HK$300,000, which included seed funding, expert consultation, training, and vital resources, all of which are designed to enable the passionate team to actualize its vision.
Besides the EdUHK Ease Fund 2023/24, Prof. Yeung’s team was also one of the 11 winning teams of the EdUHK-HKSTP (Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation) Co-Ideation Programme. Launched last year, the Programme has become a cornerstone of the University's commitment to supporting start-ups and fostering innovation.
Prof. Yeung’s team’s vision is to develop social robots that act as interactive learning companions. The innovative approach has led the team to design a social robot specifically tailored for early childhood English education. Looking ahead, the team plans to broaden their applications to address the needs of different age groups. Ultimately, their goal is to provide cost-effective robotic solutions, thereby fostering lifelong learning and quality of life.
