Dr. Lee Chia-Ying from Institute of Linguistics, Academia Sinica visited PS

2024-05-20

Thanks to the generous support of the Tin Ka Ping Education Fund, our department had the honour of welcoming Dr. Lee Chia-Ying from the Institute of Linguistics at Academia Sinica for a visit from 11 to 15 March 2024.

During the five-day visit, Dr. Lee had a productive itinerary. This included meetings with the board members of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, consultations with our faculty members, and delivering a lecture titled “Brain signatures for the statistical learning of Chinese reading acquisition”. The lecture drew an audience of approximately 40 scholars specializing in Psychology.

At the academic seminar, Dr. Lee shared her research findings and proposed practical methods to improve children's Chinese character learning abilities. Additionally, she introduced a mobile phone application called "收割季節" (Harvest Season), developed by her Brain and Language Laboratory. This app enables young users to grasp the relationship between phonetic radicals and the pronunciation of Chinese characters, facilitating effective and efficient Chinese character learning.

The audiences gained valuable insights into the research topic and discussed potential opportunities for research collaboration with Dr. Lee. We encourage you to take full advantage of the chance to review the recorded video and slides from the seminar, as they will be accessible online until June 2024.
