Dr. Chan Ka Shing Kevin and Dr. Tso Ricky Van Yip shared about their project, titled “Mindfulness-based Stigma Stress Reduction Programme for Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Their Parents” in the closing ceremony of 2021 “Fund for Innovation, Technology, and Social-wellbeing” (FITS) Projects on 27 September 2023.
Due to the increasing stigmatization of individuals with psychological or developmental disorders worldwide, Dr. Chan and Dr. Tso have collaborated with the Edge Development Centre, for the development of an online mindfulness platform. The platform offers a series of free mindfulness self-care courses for children with neurodevelopmental disorders and their parents, aiming to reduce the stigma stress and enhance the psychological well-being of the beneficiaries.
With the funding from the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund (SIE Fund), the KT Sub-office of Research & Development Office of EdUHK launched the “Fund for Innovation, Technology, and Social-wellbeing” (FITS). The programme supports applied research projects that identify social issues in Hong Kong and and facilitate the formulation of strategies to make practical and sustainable solutions. Through collaborations with government units, organizations, schools, associations, and social enterprises, innovative ideas, products, and services are implemented in the community.
