According to Dr Thomas Man and Dr Christina Yu of the Department of Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences and Technology, the “Teen Entrepreneurs Competition”, launched five years ago, aims to promote business education, helping students of business studies at HKIEd benefit from putting what they have learnt in class into practice. The project started with the setting up of an executive committee within the Department, which was responsible for training the students along corporate management techniques to become programme instructors. These programme instructors then coach secondary students on management skills in schools participating in the project. A Chinese New Year Bazaar is run by these secondary school students and in view of the quality and safety of our campus facilities, it was once again held at the Institute as it has been for the past few years.
Ho Chun-sing, an executive committee member who has four years’ experience in the project shares the same view with his successor, Cho Chun-kit. Both of them agree that they learnt a great deal during the project organisation process, especially as, under the caring guidance of their professors, the students are able to fully develop their talents and creativity. At the same time, the project allows participants to appreciate the true spirit of unity and the power it generates – they are able to see for themselves how graduates and alumni serve as role models with their pledges to fully support the project in every way. Although there aren’t large numbers of students in MSST, the sense of belonging is amazing. Everyone involved is very proud of the Department’s team spirit.
Chun-sing treasures each and every opportunity he has to make contact with frontline teachers and their students. Building a strong network between HKIEd and the education community, he is committed to demonstrating the strengths of IEd students to the outside world. At the same time, by forging an ongoing communications network for himself with the different corporations involved, Chun-sing hopes to build solid foundations for his own development as an outstanding teacher in business studies. |
