Li & Fung Group supports our developing language teachers' overseas immersion programmes To improve students' language fluencies and raise their language teaching standards, the HKIEd's 15-week overseas immersion programme for language enhancement is now compulsory for all full-time students majoring in Chinese or English language teaching. For financially-disadvantaged students, however, this does mean an extra financial burden, as all programme participants have to shoulder part of the expenses incurred when they go overseas or visit mainland China. |

To celebrate its centenary, the Li & Fung Group set up a special endowment fund this year, called the Li & Fung Scholarships, under which first-degree students from Hong Kong and mainland China can apply for sponsorships for their overseas studies. In mid-2006, we very gratefully received a generous donation from this scholarship scheme. As a result, from this academic year onward, at least 20 students a year will receive sponsorship towards their English language immersion programmes overseas. The Institute wishes to extend our most sincere gratitude to the Li & Fung Group for their generosity. The kind support will help relieve the financial burden of our students and enable them to focus more closely on their studies .  |
