Riding High over Cambridge and Exeter: Tsang Ngo-yin makes Education Research her ultimate venture

Making a career in teaching has always been an aspiration for Tsang Ngo-yin. She took a bachelor's degree course in Primary Education at the HKIEd after matriculation. Upon graduation in 2001, Ngo-yin taught for two years before she decided to further her studies at the University of Exeter in the UK, where she received her first master's degree. From Exeter, she went to the University of Cambridge for her second master's degree. Doctoral research is next on Ngo-yin's agenda, and making a contribution to the community upon her return to Hong Kong comes third.

While attending the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Primary) programme, Tsang Ngo-yin majored in music education. Looking back with amusement, Ngo-yin remembered how fine art used to be her favourite subject at secondary school and music made little impression on her. Things began to change at the HKIEd, where she was led to discover the treasures in music. Thanks to the dedication of and encouragement from lecturers and tutors such as Ms Lai May-tan, Drs Wong Wai-ying and Leung Bo-wah, Ngo-yin found a brand new perspectives on music and an immense interest started to spring up.

"The HKIEd always gives its students ample room for learning and creativity. Ms Lai showed us different ways to teach music, and I have learnt how to feel and think about music and express such feelings. Dr Wong taught us conducting and vocal skills, and I have learnt to understand the wonderful relationship between visual art, music and rhythmic movements. Dr Leung kindled my interest in education research and helped me enhance the quality of my thinking ... ." Ngo-yin recounted with fond memories.
