Message from the President

Spirituality education

Religious groups have played a very significant role in Hong Kong's education. In establishing schools, the religious bodies are not just teaching pupils knowledge and prepare them for public examinations. They have been called upon by their religious beliefs, to nurture young minds with alternatives to a materialistic view of life through spiritual education. Such conviction coincides with the Institute's vision in not just preparing educators to impart knowledge. We also believe that young teachers should go beyond the daily calls and trawls, and influence their future pupils with a caring attitude within an increasingly competitive milieu.

As such, I am particularly grateful for the generosity of five religious bodies, namely Ching Chung Taoist Association, Sik Sik Yuen, the Hong Kong Buddhist Association, the Hong Kong Catholic Diocese and Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui; for their donations of $13 million in total for the setting up of Hong Kong's first Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education in teacher education institutions. Their philanthropic moves symbolise the important collaboration between these school-sponsoring bodies and our Institute, and stand us in very good stead at the inception of the Third Matching Grant Scheme, which was launched in June 2006 and will last until February 2007.

Your donations will get doubled

With your donations, we will allocate half to support academic activities, while the remaining 50% for the set up of scholarship and bursaries for our students’ whole person development, through immersion, exchange and study tours opportunities outside of Hong Kong.

May I call upon your support in our donation drives, which will eventually enhance the overall quality of teacher education and for a better Hong Kong.
