Abstract
Since the 1990s, Australia’s approach to engaging with Asia has evolved from viewing "Asia as Other" to a more integrated perspective of “Australia in Asia.” However, the concept of "Asia literacy"—a term broadly referring to an understanding of Asia in the Australian context—remains complex and problematic, particularly in its implications for teacher practice. In this presentation, Jia Ying will draw on her experience as an Asian teacher and researcher working in Australia to critically engage with her research on Asia literacy practices in two Australian primary schools. She will explore how purpose, content, and relationships shape teaching in this area.
