It was held in Kuala Lumpur at Sunway University which has been focusing on the implementation of SDGs for a number of years and achieved remarkable results.

Several UNESCO offices organized this event: UNESCO Regional Offices in Jakarta and Bangkok, and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN-SDSN). It was co-hosted by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia with support from the Government of Japan through the Japanese Fund-in-Trust (JFIT), the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF), and other UNESCO Offices.

Over 2 days of interaction between UNESCO staff from the region, delegates discussed new tools developed by UNESCO in the area of greening, achievements, and challenges related to ESD implementation in Asia-Pacific region. Dr Margarita Pavlova was a discussant at the panel focused on the Mainstreaming of ESD in Educational Systems during the event. Given her expertise, she was invited to talk on greening curriculum. Around 400 people attended the event. She also took part in a working group discussion on Educators’ capacity building to identify possible actions in the region.

A world-renowned professor of economics, Jeffrey Sachs, President of the UN Sustainable Development Solution Network did a keynote and argued for the need to broaden students' perspectives on humanity, its values, cognition, and behaviour. He advertised his new, free, online course on that.

This meeting provided an opportunity to establish links with the Ministry of Education, the Philippines and the Ministry of Education, Uzbekistan. Being a member of the Advisory Committee of the Malaysia Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training Research, Dr Pavlova met with the management team and discussed a book publication on the Futures of TVET.
