Over 10% of children in HK are diagnosed with Dyslexia.
Dyslexia is a special educational need that involves difficulties with accurate word recognition and by poor decoding abilities. Children with dyslexia find reading and writing difficult because Chinese characters can be so complex. They may reverse or mix up different parts of the characters, and add or skip a stroke.
“For children with dyslexia, recognising characters or words is the most influential difficulty in their learning process,” said Prof Kenneth Sin Kuen-fung, Director of Centre for Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education. “Besides copywork and dictation, there are also simple and interesting ways that can boost their reading skills.”
