Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Activity with UC Berkeley: Educational Leadership: Theory, Research, and Practice
The initiative involved bringing doctoral students from the EdUHK and the University of California, Berkeley through an online course. It was jointly led by Dr. Sedat Gumus and Koon Lin (Linnie) Wong from EdUHK, along with Dr. Ozge Hacifazliogly and Dr. Lihi Rosenthal from the University of California, Berkeley.
The course was the first COIL activity between the two institutions and was planned to continue in the coming years. It was conducted by UC Berkeley’s Immersive Labs, allowing rich interactions among professors and students from both sides.
There was an initial joint lecture in collaboration with professors from both sides, followed by a few group discussions and presentation activities, involving students from both sides.
Overall, both the lecture and the group activities were designed to maximize learning in developing research proposals in educational leadership, gaining global perspectives, and improving social interaction skills.
Lastly, the participants were encouraged to stay in contact as critical peers and update each other on their progress toward research proposals or dissertation writing stages.
