On 22 August, 2024, a group of enthusiastic BSc(EM) freshmen visited The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for a career exploration focused on animal welfare and advocacy.
During the visit, the entry-year students attended a career talk led by Ms. Vivian Chiu, the Education Manager (Content Development and Institutions) at SPCA. Ms. Chiu shared essential skills and qualifications for careers in animal care, along with practical tips for effective financial and human resource management in the NGO sector. This provided students with valuable insights for their early career preparation.
In addition to the informative talk, the SPCA offered a comprehensive tour of their facilities, allowing students to observe the organisation’s daily operations. Through this hands-on experience, students learned about the various services provided by SPCA and gained concrete ideas regarding animal rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption processes.
The BSc(EM) programme actively strives to engage students with various non-profit sectors, facilitating them to make informed decisions about their future careers. This visit to SPCA aimed to inspire students to consider paths that positively impact the lives of animals and the wider community.
