Dr. Paul Campbell gives keynote at ESF Center for Research Conference 2024

2024-06-24

Dr Paul Campbell, Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Education Policy and Leadership (EPL), was invited to be the keynote speaker at the annual English Schools Foundation (ESF) Center for Research (CfR) Annual Conference 2024. Dr. Campbell's talk was entitle 'Leadership for Action on Climate Change: the role of Education Policy and Professional Standards in the Hong Kong Context'. As climate change has garnered more attention in public and policy discourse, there has been a growing understanding of the nuanced and multi-faceted injustices, such as intergenerational, racial, and economic inequities manifested through health, physical vulnerabilities, and other social and economic indicators, all of which are exacerbated by climate change. With this in mind, this talk examined the possible roles of education in addressing these injustices and taking action on climate change. Specifically, it addressed the role of the Professional Standards for Teachers (PST) and Professional Standards for Principals (PSP) in enabling the exploration of and action for global challenges, such as climate change, and the nature of the relationship between action on climate change, professional standards, and education policy, with particular attention to leadership.
